About us and kvass

Our Story

Hi, we’re Dasha and Masha.

We grew up in a place where kvass was always around — at birthday parties, on hot summer days, and as part of everyday life.

In Britain, we realised how much we missed kvass. Garna started in Dasha’s kitchen in Kingston, with homemade batches and a lot of recipe testing. The more kvass Dasha made, the more our friends kept asking for it.

Recently, we teamed up with the brilliant brewers at Bianca Road Brew Co to produce our first proper batch so you could also try it!

Garna Kvass stays true to the drink we grew up with, but is reimagined for our everyday life in London.

What is kvass?

Kvass is an old Slavic drink, dating back to medieval times.

It was made across Eastern Europe and long valued as an everyday drink — refreshing, thirst-quenching, and easy to enjoy generously.

Brewed from grain and shaped by fermentation, kvass offered more flavour and substance than water, with the depth, gentle acidity and natural richness people still value in fermented drinks today. That is part of why it became woven into daily life — refreshing, satisfying, and easy to reach for with food, in warm weather, after physical effort, or whenever water felt too plain and soda too sweet.

Over centuries, kvass settled into tradition. Today, we bring that tradition to London.
